What Was That?
Over the course of four days, the GOP had a grand ‘ol party in Cleveland, Ohio. Whatever your viewpoint, one could say it was grand, and it was sort of a party in that people wore hats and cheered and clapped and probably drank alcohol. Maybe there was cake, who knows.
But it was not a success as far as political conventions go. It was a mess. It all started with Trump’s wife Melania: she (or someone) plagiarized Michelle Obama in her speech. Then Ted Cruz refused to endorse Trump, after taking a hour of the RNC’s stage in primetime to promote himself. The Trump kids spoke, and were okay, but just okay. Attack dogs came and went, and the favorite crowd chants were about throwing Hillary Clinton in jail or building walls or both. Trump’s speech was an angry, un-nuanced, wandering series of shouted sentences that aimed to instill absolute terror about the state of the world. He paused once and listened to the crowd chant and jeer, smirking and reveling in the furious masses he had assembled. It was incredibly terrifying. Here are some of the drawings and cartoons I drew from my tv and my imagination.
