VERY FUNNY LADIES: THE NEW YORKER’S WOMEN CARTOONISTS

1925–2021

We’ve always been funny!

In my book, Very Funny Ladies, which launches today, I profile the amazing women who have been drawing cartoons for The New Yorker since the magazine’s first issue in 1925. It was a joy to discover the women who came before me, as well as interview contemporary cartoonists. I am passionate to get their work seen. By singling these women out, I hope to help everyone know the history and understand the present.

While there were not as many women drawing humor in the past, now, cartoonists who identify as women and those who identify as men are equal in number now at the magazine. It’s fantastic.

There will be a launch event tonight, link here, at 7pm EST. Join me as I talk to other cartoonists Roz Chast, Kim Warp and Kendra Allenby!
