Trump Presser Redux

Trump is appealing to the Supreme Court to stop his sentencing on Friday in the NYC hush-money case. His request for a stay was denied by in appellate court by Judge Ellen Gesmer. If the Supreme Court declines to consider, he has 30 days to appeal the sentencing, and then the conviction is absolutely final. He will still be a convict on inauguration day.

The Justice Deptartment is to hold off releasing the report on Trump’s documents case. But the Department indicated that it would release a separate report about Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election as soon as possible. Trump’s role in the portion that is not being released has ended, but the case of two of his co-defendents, Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira, is still active. That’s why the report is not being released. Trump may pardon those two (I bet he will) and then that will end it. The portion of Jack Smith’s report that is not being released now would never be seen.

In yet another strange, rambling press conference yesterday, reminiscent of his pressers during the pandemic, he continues to falsely claim he “won by a landslide” and that “there are still places that they are counting votes, can you believe it? What a horrible, horrible place. We are going to make it so votes are counted by 10 o’clock.” And, of course, “Jack Smith is a deranged individual, and “we did…
