If you lived through Watergate, what’s going on now with our President and his administration is eerily reminiscent of those days. I was in high school in Washington, DC, and while I didn’t follow the news as closely as I do now, I certainly felt it. I feel the news now, too.
When that happens, I know I should draw something.
I wanted to depict the hangdog look Trump gets, and did a sketch of him first, sitting on the American flag. Not quite an idea, but I liked this sketch, which led to the final drawing.
I realized I had to draw the fact that Trump is metaphorically on a precipace. We don’t know yet what will happen; but it feels like he might, indeed, fall.
Hat tip to cartoonist Herblock of the Washington Post, a cartoonist who influenced me growing up. Herblock drew Nixon many, many times before, during and after Watergate.
