To Be Human Is To Laugh

Kamala’s love of humor

Humor is what makes us human. Laughter is something we share, a positive thing, when it’s not from hurtful humor.

I see Kamala Harris’s humor, her laugh, as representing a thrill to be alive and an excitement to be doing what she loves. An enthusiasm to help people and make our country the best it can be. When Hillary Clinton ran for President, I am sure she had a similar desire, but because she was the first woman to be the nominee of a major political party, she held back, she kept herself in check, controlled. I am a huge fan of Hillary Clinton’s, but during her campaign, she was doing what so many of us women do: trying to make sure not to rock the boat, fit into a mold that will be perfect, that will get the job done, that will win. I am not blaming Hillary for her loss, far from it. There were many elements in that election that contributed to her not breaking that highest glass ceiling. Given the nature of her “first-ness” and the country’s unwillingness to welcome a woman in that role, she couldn’t be herself.

To some degree, in this campaign, Kamala can let herself go. Thanks to Hillary paving the way, Harris can be herself, run for President and win.

She can show us her full-throated laugh.

Our responsibility is to crush the criticisms of Kamala’s laugh, allow her to be human and show us her real self.
