Can We All Get Along?

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by the editorial department for CNN.com. The editor wanted to include me in an opinion piece by answering this question: what can be done to fix what is broken and restore faith in democracy?

I was asked in part because I am a cartoonist, and often speak in visuals. So I responded in a cartoon. The other “experts” used words. You can read the article here. My drawing is self explanitory, but I like to quote Rodney King when he said in 1992, “Can we all get along?”

Tonight I am giving a talk as part of the State University of New York’s Distinguised Speaker series called The Power of Humor. Most of my talk actually will be about the power of cartoons, really, because that’s what I do.

As so many of you (my wonderful followers) know, I really believe that art has great power, cartoon art in particular. Because people love cartoons and are drawn to them, they catch the eye and make viewers stop and look. I think it comes from all of us having enjoyed cartoons as children. Cartoons are in our blood and can reach us often immediately, intuitively.
