The Capitol Insurrection Hero
Army Veteran, Capitol Policeman Eugene Goodman
There is so much about the assault on the US Capitol that we don’t yet know. But one story that has surfaced in the last 24 hours highlights the incredible danger of that day for our Democracy. The unruly mob came within moments of being near the Vice President and lawmakers. Had it not been for the actions of one policeman at that moment, who led the mob away from the Senate floor, the mob would have been in contact with lawmakers, many of whom had not yet been evacuated. That policeman was Eugene Goodman, and he deserves recognition and our enormous thanks.
Here, a video of the mob and Goodman from two different angles. It shows what happened both from within the mob and from behind Goodman (filmed by journalist Igor Bobic). It’s frightening and unsettling. Had the attackers arrived moments earlier, the mob would have been in contact with Pence, Senators and Congress people and it could have been horrible.
Goodman, an Army Veteran, is being considered for a Congressional Gold medal for luring the terrorists away from lawmakers.
He certainly deserves it. I am glad he is safe.
Here is a video of me drawing the above.
