Wings of peace
I find myself thinking about the First Amendment a lot lately. If nothing else, the daily attacks on the press by this president of ours is a constant reminder of how lucky we are that we have a free press, that we have a first amendment that insures our government will not restrict the freedom of individuals or press from speaking their minds or telling the truth. Equally, we have to accept that the president has every right to say the things he does, because of our First Amendment.
Here it is:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
I applaud today’s effort by US newspapers to amplify our press freedom in the face of persistent attacks from Trump by publishing editorials and cartoons on this subject. I drew the above as my contribution. In drawing the peace dove with press wings, I was hoping to show how the free press has wings and ultimately can bring the world peace.
I also drew this one. I love drawing Lady Liberty!
