Overheard At A Farm Market

Farm Markets are great for the produce and artisanal products offered. As a cartoonist, my job is to watch people, listen to what’s going on. I am like a sponge of culture, and farm markets are a wonderful place for sponging. They are contained areas for not only seeing what new’s being sold (fermented things or obscure cheeses or vegetables I’ve never heard of), but also for watching the customers and sellers, observing what they are wearing and what they are saying. Particularly in a market close to a major metropolitan city, it is a way to scout for trends. I don’t typically eavesdrop, but I did purposefully for this piece. Below are some drawings of people I saw at an upscale farmer’s market in the Hudson Valley several weeks ago. The speech balloons are things I actually heard. I hope you enjoy!

Thanks for being here!
