Live-Drawing The Oscar Nominations
Here we go!
I love storytelling and film. And as flawed as awards shows are, I still enjoy the excitement of it all. Viewing the films, learning about their creation, marveling at the writing, directing and acting, floating in visual storytelling, and, yes watching the Academy Awards . I hope to be there in person and live-draw the proceedings again in March as I have for five years.
They announced the nominees this morning, and I live-drew it in real time from my monitor. The drawing is below. Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams did a good job: professional, swift, and ever so slightly humorous.
Below are the nominees, if you are interested. I’ve seen a bunch of these already, have many more to watch. My favorite thus far is The Banshees of Inisherin, and Cate Blanchet’s performance in Tar. I also found the film Aftersun to be remarkable and moving. I am particularly anxious to watch Everything Everywhere All At Once, and Women Talking.
I don’t understand the politics of these nominations, but I know that a lot of money goes into lobbying for being picked. It’s sad that good films that don’t have the financial wherewithall aren’t noticed. Speilberg is beloved, and rightfully so, and while I have not seen The Fabelmans, I’ve heard some say it’s not his best. Yet it’s nominated. Tom Cruise is a Hollywood…
