Lincoln Is Worried

Think about what we have and what can be taken away

This Fourth of July is unlike any other in my lifetime. I don’t feel like waving a flag, not because I don’t love my country, I do; rather it just seems too simple a thing to do right now. Plus, the radical right has usurped the symbol of the flag. Perhaps a reason TO wave the flag, I guess.

Historians might say that we have been at junctures like this before. That gives me some comfort, knowing that there have been some horrible times for our Democracy — particularly during President Lincoln’s time, before and after he was assisinated. And we pulled through. I am reading a lot of history on the Civil War, it’s genesis and aftermath. My question is, were people sneakily trying to take away our Democracy through legislation, lies and voter supression? Those times seem eerily similar to right now, although it’s becomming less and less sneaky.

If you haven’t heard of Project 2025, I am just learning about it and it’s frightening. It’s the extreme far-right’s agenda for the next Republican Administration.

I drew the above live on Instagram.

I hope you have a good day and evening, and while you are eating hot dogs and watching fireworks, think about what we have and what could be taken away.
