I Can’t Find Good News
One man is responsible
Another prominent writer for the Washington Post has resigned. Ruth Marcus, Washington Post associate editor and top political columnist is resigning following CEO Will Lewis’ decision to kill her opinion piece critical of Bezos’ latest changes to the paper. Last month, Bezos announced a change to the paper’s editorial stance, that from now on it would be about “personal liberties and free markets.” I frankly don’t fully understand what that means, it sounds like wishy washy goblety gook, something akin to trickle down theory. What happened to “Democracy Dies In Darkness?” Most writers I have been reading about this indicate the shift means an alignment with the right.
Honest journalism is moving elsewhere.
Harvard announced a hiring freeze because funding is threatened. On Friday, Trump withdrew $400 million of grant money from Barnard College for its supposed failure to protect Jewish students. Trump celebrated the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, the activist who played a leading role in Columbia University’s pro-Palestinian student protests last year, saying this was his “first arrest of many to come. We know there are more students at Columbia and other Universities across the Country who have engaged in pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic, anti-American activity, and the Trump Administration will not tolerate it.” This arrest and the threats of arrest for legal free speech is wrong. Trump is attempting to squash free speech.
Global Stock Markets are continuing to tumble, yesterday was the worst day this year, investors are anxious because Trump said we may have a recession. Tesla shares are crashing.
All because of one man.
In Washington, DC, a Black Lives Matter mural is being removed, this under pressure from Republicans.
Because of Trump.
China’s retaliatory tariffs on American agricultural products is taking effect today.
Because of Trump.
He’s wreaking havoc, and his reasoning is that eventually we will all be making tons of money. First of all, that’s not what we’re about as a country, and secondly: how the heck does he know this? He doesn’t. America is not a business. Is all this on advice from tech bros and their leader, Elon??
I am looking for good news, but have not found any today. Sorry.
A drawing for you to end on an up note. Go protest or find a field of grass to romp in.
