Heat Waves
In weather and politics
Today, you get a summertime drawing and thoughts on politics! How are you weathering the heat wave — both weather and political heat waves?
Senator Bernie Sanders wrote a strong editorial in today’s NY Times in favor of Joe Biden staying in the race. Bravo, Bernie. I have had my issues with him in the past (not about his positions, but about his methods), but am very glad to see this editorial.
Both he and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez came out in strong support of the President. In a phone call with the President, AOC told him that “his best shot at winning in November is putting forward an agenda that speaks to the needs of the working class.” Of course, both she and Sanders are champions of that cause; I think it makes perfect sense. Biden is also a champion of that class, and is a working class man, we forget that sometimes because he has been a public servant for so long. His belief in the common man and the plight of every day Americans has always been strong, and it is in stark contrast to what Trump stands for: the wealthy corporate class.
If AOC and Sanders can whip up enough fervor on this, it will galvanize young voters and Black voters (I’m not sure about Latino voters). If Biden were to ask me (hahahaha), I would say keep it simple and talk about working…
