Happy International Women’s Day!

3 min readMar 9, 2025

As today is International Women’s Day, I pause to think how far we’ve come and how far we have to go. Unfortunately, we have not come anywhere near far enough, globally, and now we are going backwards. But at least now in this country, women and our allies know how to fight back more efficiently. I hope.

I am sharing some of work done over the past years on this subject, a time period during which my drawings became more expressive of women’s rights. I’ve always been a feminist, but it only ocurred to me perhaps 15 years into my career to use my skills to raise awareness of women’s plight globally. What changed was also partly due to the internet: I could publish my political cartoons online because frankly, there was no place to publish them in the mainstream media (although I drew political cartoons for The New Yorker, they didn’t publish my feminist drawings). And the internet had new publications that were open to using my work. None of the drawings on today’s newsletter were in a legacy media publication.

A lot has changed, and a lot hasn’t.
