Drawing The Brave Ukrainians
Watching the events unfold in Ukraine is heart breaking. So much so, I was unsure how to respond in a drawing. Do I draw about Putin and his agression? No. So I waited a few days and began to feel that the important part of this story is the Ukrainian people. They are amazing in their strength and determination.
My live drawing, when I draw and talk to viewers as I complete a drawing, is on Instagram, and here is the link. During the pandemic, I did this every day, talking and drawing about an issue in the news or culture that we were all concerned about. Today marks my return to this on a regular basis, and I think it has to do with the global attention on Ukraine. We need to talk about it together. I will draw as we do. Of course I will hit on other subjects, not always serious.
Today, I watched a reporter ask a Ukrainian soldier what he would say to a Russian soldier if he met one. His answer was pure simplicity. He said,
“Go home.”
So I drew that, below. It was my daily live draw for today. I was on a train when I drew this, so my line is a bit shakey, but I like that about it.
My heart goes out to the brave Ukrainian people.
