My hope lies in the good people
It ended last night as even more of a circus in our House of Representatives. I did not stay up for it until the end, which was early this morning. But wow. It appears that McCarthy gave the extremists a lot of power in order to get the Speaker position. Ambition is too mild a word for what we just witnessed. I will never forget right after the January 6th when McCarthy first condemed the Insurrection, then rushed down to Mara Lago for a photo shoot with Trump.
While I don’t know the full extent of what terms McCarthy negotiated to get the votes he needed, I am reading that he gave enough to the extremists so that they can potentially hold our government hostage using the debt limit. These extemists are the same people who support(ed) the insurrectionists.
This is frightening.
But I believe that there are enough good people in the House to not let this happen. Minority Speaker Jeffries, to speak of one.
