Day Four Was Oscar Statue Day

Today, I drew a bunch of Oscar statues.

I was unsure if they would have them around this year- I recall one year there were hardly any. It was great to see them! I’m not sure why I have such affection for this figure, but every year, I have to learn to draw Oscar again. He is very symmetrical and the lines of his figure are quite specific. I constantly struggle to get it right.

There’s something slightly amusing about seeing Oscar wrapped in plastic, as above. Because it has been raining a lot today, there was a bucket to Oscar’s left to gather rain from a leak. Los Angelians are not used to this much rain.

And, of course, there’s always someone touching up paint near an Oscar statue.

I learned from Wikipedia the following: “The statuette, depicting a knight rendered in the Art Deco style, was originally sculpted by Los Angeles artist George Stanley from a design sketch by art director Cedric Gibbons.”
